The SC0829AVW is a compact 2-way normally closed DC solenoid water valve engineered for coffee machines and water dispensers. It closes automatically when power is cut - preventing leaks in the event of a power failure. With a tested service life of 200,000 cycles and rated water flow of 800 mL/min, it delivers reliability throughout the product lifecycle without becoming a replacement maintenance item. Normally Closed - Why It Matters for Coffee Machines and Water Dispensers
A normally closed (NC) solenoid valve is closed by default when no power is applied. It opens only when energised.
For coffee machines and water dispensers, this is the correct choice for three practical reasons:
1. Leak-safe by design If power is interrupted - whether from a power outage, user error, or device fault - the valve closes automatically. No water flows without an active command. This eliminates a class of field issues caused by valve-open failures during power-off states.
2. Lower average power consumption In most dispensing cycles, the valve is closed more than it is open. With an NC valve, the coil is only energised during the brief window when water needs to flow. Energy is used only when dispensing - idle state draws zero coil current.
3. Regulatory alignment Most national appliance safety standards (IEC, UL, CE) require water-contact appliances to fail safely. An NC solenoid valve satisfies this by defaulting to the safe (closed) state.
Note on NO vs NC: If your design requires the valve to default to open (e.g., continuous-flow systems or gravity-fed setups where power-off means "flow freely"), contact SKOOCOM for normally open (NO) versions.
